The Interjections

 

Interjections are the words that are used to express some sudden feelings or emotions. They are not grammatically  related to any word or sentence.

EXAMPLES OF INTERJECTION

Observe the following examples:-

For Example :-

  1. Hurrah! We won the match.

  2. Alas! He is no more.

  3. Oh! He has arrived.

  4. Hush! The baby is sleeping. 

The words in the above sentences : Hurrah, Alas, Oh, Hush are expressing sudden feelings/emotions. Such types of words are called interjections.

​Rules for interjections

  1. The Interjection is placed before a sentence begins.

  2. The mark of exclamation(!) always follows an Interjection.

Interjections may express:-

  1. Joy :- Hurrah! Huzza!, Ha-Ha!

  2. Sorrow:- Alas!, Oh!, Ah!

  3. Surprise:- What!, Ha!, Oh!

  4. Appreciation:-  Bravo!

  5. Calling:-Hello!, Hey!
