Pronoun

 

Pronoun are the words used in place of a noun to avoid repetition.

For Example :- Jack and Jill are friends. They (Jack and Jill) went up to the hill.

 

Here in this sentence they is used for Jack and Jill to avoid repetition.

Types Of Pronouns

 

Personal Pronoun :- Personal Pronoun are the words used for a specific person(subject) or object according to their genders.

Before we go further let's learn about subject and object.

What is subject ?

Subject is a person or thing performing an action in the sentence.

For Example :- He is going to the office.

Here in this sentence He is subject , because He is performing an action

( going to the office).

What is an object ?

Object is a person or thing receiving an action of the verb in the sentence.

For Example :- My mother gave me a gift on my birthday.

Here in this sentence me is object , because me is receiving an action(gave me a gift).

Possessive Pronouns :-  Possessive pronouns are the pronouns used to show possession or ownership.

There are two types of possessive pronoun :-

1- Dependent Possessive Pronouns :-  They never come without noun.

2- Independent Possessive Pronouns :- They always come without noun.

Note:- Dependent possessive pronouns are sometimes called demonstrative adjectives.

Demonstrative Pronouns :-  Demonstrative pronouns are the pronouns used to demonstrate nouns.

The words used to demonstrate nouns are :-  this ; that ; these ; those.

For Examples :-

1) This is my bag..

2) Those books are mine.

3) That is his  pen..

4) These toys are hers.

 Interrogative Pronouns :-Interrogative pronouns are the words used to ask questions.

 

The words used to ask questions are :-  what ; whose ; who ; which ; whom 

For  Examples :-

1) Who is your brother ?

2) Whom are you buying this gift for ?

3) Whose pen is this ?

4) Which is your bag ?
