Nouns can be of different types.They are as Follows :-

Common Noun :- A noun used to refer general category/class is called common noun.Common nouns don't start with capital letter unless they begin with sentence.They indicate the class of a person, place, animal, thing etc.

For example :-

 

Persondoctor, boy, woman,teacher

Place - city, school, hospital

Animal - dog, cat, elephant

Thing - table, pen, book

Proper Noun :- A noun used to refer to the name of a particular person, place, animal, thing is called proper noun. Proper nouns are special names given to a person, place, animal, thing, day, month, river etc. Proper noun always starts with capital letter.

PersonRaj, John, Yuvraaj, Tia

Place - Mumbai, Delhi, India, Japan

Day- Monday, Sunday, Friday

Monument - Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar

Material Noun :- A noun used to refer to a material/a substance is called material noun.Material noun always exists in the form of a mass and it can not be counted.It can be touched, seen and felt.

Compound  Noun :- A noun that is made up of two or more words is called compound noun. it can be combination of - noun + noun ;  noun + verb ;  adjective + noun ;  adjective + verb.

Compound noun can be written in three ways :-

Separated words :- Post Master, Prime Minister etc.

One words :- notebook, eyebrow, tabletop etc.

Hyphenated words :- sister-in-law, ,touch-me-not etc.
