Adjectives

Adjectives are the words used to describe the noun/pronoun. They are also called describing words, as they describe  quality, quantity, possession of the noun/pronoun. They are usually placed before the noun/pronoun that they modify.

Example :-  This is a red beetle.

                     I bought a new pencil.

 Types of Adjectives

Nouns can be of different types. They are as Follows :-

Adjectives of Quality :- These adjectives are the words that describe the quality of the noun or pronoun. They are also called descriptive adjectives because they describe the shape, size, color, quality etc of the noun/pronoun.

 

 

For example :-

  1. My mother is a good teacher.

  2. He is an honest boy.

  3. Rose flower is red in color.

  4. This book is very informative.

Adjective of Quantity:- These adjectives describe the quantity of nouns or pronouns. They are of two types:-

​

Adjective of definite quantity:- These adjectives tell us  definite quantity of nouns/pronouns.

 

For example :-

  1. He has learnt four chapters.

  2. I have six pens.

Adjective of i definite quantity:- These adjectives tell us indefinite quantity of nouns/pronouns.

​

For example :-

  1. He ate some rice in lunch.

  2. Don't eat too much of nuts.

​

Possessive Adjectives :- These adjectives are the words used to tell the possession of nouns/pronouns. They are used before nouns.

 

For example :-

  1. My laptop is not working.

  2. His car has been stolen.

  3. Her performance was too good.

  4. My parents told us not to quarrel.

Demonstrative Adjectives :- These adjectives are the words used to point out specific nouns.

 

For example :-

  1. These apples are fresh.

  2. Those cats are very friendly.

  3. This dog is very cute.

  4. Can you see those mountains from here.

 

 

Note :- When 'this', 'that', 'these', 'those' are not placed before nouns , they function as demonstrative pronouns.
